Veteran actress Mumtaz reveals her birthday plans; says, “My entire family will be there”

The iconic diva of Hindi cinema Mumtaz who turns a year older on July 31 has big plans for the special day. “My husband (global entrepreneur Mayur Madhvani) has made some special plans for my birthday this year. As you know I’ve two daughters. One lives in Dubai the other in Italy. Both my daughters-in-law and my sons-in-law love me a lot. Fardeen my daughter Natasha’s husband, is just like own bachcha. When Fardeen’s mother Sundari (Mrs Feroz Khan) was pregnant with Fardeen we had together done special prayers for his healthy delivery.”

The entire family will get together in Uganda for Mumtaz’s birthday this year. “All of my loved ones have been invited by my husband to come to our home in Uganda for my birthday. We have a beautiful beach house in Uganda. And my entire family will be there. My children, my grandchildren …what would be a happier birthday than this for me? My husband and I love our grandchildren to death.”

After her birthday Mumtaz will return to her home in London. “I will now come to Mumbai again when some work materializes. I want to make sure that my comeback film will be something really special.”

Looking back at her journey so far Mumtaz say, “Bahot pyar diya logon ne. Itna diya ke mujhse sambhala nahin jata (people have given me abundant love, more than I can handle). Even forty years after I quit acting people in Mumbai recognize me. Strangers come up to me and ask, ‘Aap Mumtaz hain na?’ I reply, ‘Bilkul nahin.’ But they aren’t fooled. They know it’s me.”

When asked to pick her favourite performances Mumtaz says, “I like quite a few. I thought I was decent in Khilona, Aaina, Apna Desh, Jheel Ke Uss Paar where I played a blind girl, Aadmi Aur Insaan and Bandhe Haath, my only film with Mr Bachchan. But my favourite is Vijay Anand’s Tere Mere Sapne. I wish I had got the Filmfare award for Tere Mere Sapne instead of Khilona.”

The iconic actress Mumtaz, the heartthrob of millions danced her way into immortality with iconic numbers like ‘ Aaj Kal Tere Mere Pyar Ke Charche’ (Bramhachari ), ‘ Bindiya Chamkegi’ (Do Raaste)  and ‘ Jai Jai Shiv Shankar’ (Aap Ki Kasam ).
